Patrick Bensard

patrickcd@wanadoo.frAfter studying philosophy and publishing articles in the Cahiers du Cinéma in the late 1960s, Patrick Bensard worked as an assistant at the Magnum agency for several photographers, including Marc Riboud and Leonard Freed, before specialising in writing about film directors. For four years, Patrick was a photographer in a Paris-based press agency. From 1979 to 1987 he was artistic adviser, becoming artistic director for the Festival de Châteauvallon. In 1982 he took up the challenge of setting up La Cinémathèque de la Danse at the invitation of Igor Eisner, then Dance inspector for the Ministry of Culture and Constantin Costa-Gavras, the Chairman of the Cinémathèque française. He has produced a number of dance-related films, including Le Mystère Babilée (1999) and a portrait of the American choreograph Lucinda Childs (2006).

justinegreifh@lacinemathequedeladanse.comWith a Master’s Degree in International and European public law, and a specialisation in literary and artistic property law, Justine Greif-Humblot joined the team at the Cinémathèque de la Danse in 2005, after spending the previous year working in on cultural projects in South America. She is particularly interested in the interaction between music and dance and its related iconography.

Nicolas Villodre

villodre.n@lacinemathequedeladanse.comNicolas Villodre holds a Fine Art Ph.D in 1920s avant-garde photography (from Université Paris-I). A director of experimental films during the 1970s and 1980s, Nicolas joined the team at La Cinémathèque de la Danse in 1984, producing numerous montages and screenings. A jazz film specialist, he is currently in charge of the film, video and DVD collection.

Bernard Rémy

bern.remy@lacinemathequedeladanse.comAuthor of publications on dance and cinema and a teacher at the Collège international de philosophie, Bernard Rémy is in charge of promoting La Cinémathèque de la Danse in France and abroad. This involves screening films and organising conferences (on jazz, German expressionism, American dance, the links between dance and other artistic expression, etc.). Bernard also oversees most written publications produced by La Cinémathèque de la Danse.

aubry.v@lacinemathequedeladanse.comVirginie Aubry, who holds a diploma in cinematographic studies, joined La Cinémathèque de la Danse in 1990. She designs and produces programmes taken from its film or video collections, in partnership with cultural bodies (National theatres, festivals, diplomatic cultural services, associations) in France and abroad. Her programmes most often take the form of video montages, which are available for screenings. Catalogue by email request.

Xavier Baert

baert.x@lacinemathequedeladanse.comWith a background in music, philosophy and cinema studies, Xavier Baert writes for publications on cinema (particularly experimental cinema) and produces radio documentaries for France Culture. He joined La Cinémathèque de la Danse in 2000, where he puts together programmes linked as much to the history of dance (Balanchine, Béjart, Valeska Gert…) to a choreographic extension of film history (clips, experimental, martial arts films, etc.) and coordinates the Current Dance & Film Centre. Xavier welcomes unorthodox project proposals.

Sylvie Kuhn

kuhn.s@lacinemathequedeladanse.comSylvie Kuhn, the darling of the Grand Théâtre de Nancy, holds a Russian degree from the Institute of Oriental Languages (“Langues’O”) and is a tap-dancer and Spanish dancer. She began her career alongside Jérôme Savary and followed the troupe of the Grand Magic Circus from Zartan to Cabaret. Sylvie also works with Fernando Arrabal, Catherine Dasté, Michael Lonsdale, and sings with Georges Moustaki, le Grand Orchestre du Splendid and the group Odeurs. After a brief spell at the Ile-de-France Regional Council, she joined La Cinémathèque de la Danse after its independence.

baujard.r@lacinemathequedeladanse.comGraduate of a master of cinematographic studies (university Paris-VII), Romain Baujard is utterly interested in classical US cinema (Dwan, Hitchcock, Ford…), cinematographic critics, psychedelic music and pop movies of the 1960s (Pennebaker, Warhol…). In La Cinémathèque de la Danse, he assists the director in his program and research activities; he also brings a technical support to the editing of montages and programs for external screenings.
