mission

La Cinémathèque de la Danse was set up in 1982 as a branch of the Cinémathèque française by former chairman Constantin Costa-Gavras. Its aim is to conserve, promote and produce film documents relating to choreographic expression in its broadest sense.

An independent association since 2005, La Cinémathèque de la Danse shows films from its collection and organises thematic screenings from the world of dance and jazz, in France and abroad. It also produces dance-related publications such as DVDs and special supplements and manages a cutting-edge dance and film centre.

La Cinémathèque de la Danse is a unique archive of all movement-related iconography from the early twentieth century to the present day.

Its current president Jean Henochsberg is Chairman and Managing Director of the production and distribution company Ciné Classic. It is run by a 12-member Board of Administration and a team of 9 full-time staff.
